Dear Mr. Brereton:

This is William Hooper, Durham, NC. I am a descendent of Eleanor Brereton (1810-1878), baptized 11 Nov 1810, in Manchester, UK Cathedral (formerly, Collegiate Church of St Mary, St Denys and St George). From Eleanor’s records I have identified her parents as John Brereton and his wife Margaret. In addition to Eleanor, I believe, but am not certain,  John and Margaret had son John, (1815-1874), and daughter Margaret born 1820.

Eleanor married William Fletcher (1802-1877), ironmonger, and lived variously with family in Staffordshire in Swinnerton; Picadilly, Shelton; Stoke Upon Trent; Hanley.

I believe Eleanor Brereton Fletcher died 20 Dec 1878 and is buried at Newbury, St James, Lancashire, England.

I have electronically searched Robert Maitland Brereton’s 1904 history of the Brereton family and cannot find any link to Eleanor’s parents, John and Margaret Brereton. I would like to learn this specific John Brereton’s prior family tree, and his wife’s Margaret maiden name if possible. I believe John was born about 1785 and died on or after 1820. Wife Margaret was I believe born about 1782 and again, not certain, I think died 02 Apr 1820 in Tixall, Staffordshire, in parish of St. John the Baptist.

Any help in learning more details of Eleanor’s parents John and Margaret Brereton would be most appreciated.

Family members or other researchers can contact me at wdh962@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

William
